Recreation/Social Programs
The Taunton Council on Aging/Senior Center offers many recreation and social programs for Taunton elders, sixty (60) years of age and older. Programs include:
Card Games
Sueca, a point-trick card game with trumps that is often played in Portugal and Brazil, is held every morning at 9:30 a.m.
Quilting
A group of Taunton quilters meet at the Senior Drop-In Center every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. to share quilting knowledge and socialize. Bring your needles and thread!
Bingo
Bingo is held every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Senior Drop-In Center. Bingo cards cost $ .25 each and the total amount collected is distributed as prizes. Of course, free coffee/tea and cookies are served!
Knitting and Crocheting
A group of ladies meet at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday mornings to share knitting and crocheting knowledge and ideas. Coffee is available and socialization is encouraged!
Art Group
On Thursdays at 1:30 p.m., local artists share drawing and painting skills while completing beautiful works of art.
Book Club
The Senior Drop-In Center Book Club meets every other Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. New members are always welcome.
Movie Programs
The Senior Drop-In Center also schedules current movies that are shown on our large screen television. Times and dates of the movies will be announced. Free popcorn is served!
Other Recreational Programs
The Senior Drop-In Center stores board games such as checkers, dominoes, Scrabble as well as numerous puzzles. Magazines donated by Eye Health Vision Centers and soft and hard cover books donated by local citizens are also available.
Social Programs
The Taunton Council on Aging/Senior Center schedules many social events throughout the year. Past events include: Taunton historical presentations by Mayor Charles Crowley, a Halloween Party and a Spring Fling. Times and dates of social programs will be announced. There is a minimal cost to attend some large social events.
