Standard & Poor's upgrades Taunton's Bond rating from 'A' to 'A plus'

Mayor Charles Crowley received the welcome news on Monday that Standard & Poor’s has raised the city’s bond rating from ‘A’ to ‘A+’ which will save the city thousands of dollars in the future.  Cities and towns in Southeastern Massachusetts have experienced the most challenging financial times since the great depression, and yet Taunton continues to maintain a sound financial position where economic opportunity can flourish.
“This upgrade in our bond rating is a reflection to the hard work demonstrated by our financial team as well as all city department heads who have exhibited extraordinary teamwork during difficult economic times” stated Mayor Charles Crowley. He continued: “Our budget director Gill Enos, our city auditor Ann Hebert, our city treasurer/collector Jayne Ross and our city assessor’s office led by Barry Cooperstein deserve my praise as they continue to go the extra mile for the citizens of our community.”

Debt Exclusion Tax Bill Calculation
In June of 2007, the citizens of Taunton approved a Debt Exclusion for the $104 million dollar renovation and construction of the Taunton High School and Parker Middle School Project. There have been many citizens who have inquired as to how they could calculate what the additional amount is on their tax bill as a result of the debt exclusion vote.
The formula is as follows:
(The total amount on your tax bill multiplied by 0.0199726)
For example: If the total amount on your tax bill is $2,650 the calculation is:
$2,650 times .0.0199726= $ 52.93
