The Parks, Cemeteries & Public Grounds Department was established by City Ordinance in June, 2004. This ordinance resulted in the merger of three departments to include Parks & Recreation, Cemetery and Conservation Facility Maintenance as one department under the jurisdiction of a Commissioner of Public Grounds and a seven member board.
The Mission of this department is to provide recreational programming, facility maintenance of all parks, recreation, conservation, cemetery properties as well as tree and brush removals.
The Recreation Division is committed to offering quality year round recreational programs for all residents of the city to include the “Summer Festival Program” Special Events, Kiddies Day and Christmas Parade.
The Cemetery Division reponsibility is to repectfully prepare for all interment services in any municipal cemetery.
The Department also maintains all public burial grounds on a yearly basis.
Maintenance/Tree & Brush Programs
Our maintenance employees are responsible for the up-keep of all properties under the jurisdiction of the department, the municipal pool, municipal tree trimming and removals, storm and condemned tree removals and tree plantings. The Maintenance staff are also responsible for the coordination and support of many special events that are held in the city to include Kiddies Day, Annual Lighting of The Christmas Display on Taunton Green and Christmas Parade.
