Parking Ban:

City Wide Parking Ban in Effect 6PM Monday Until 11PM Wednesday

Due to the expected snowstorm, Mayor Thomas Hoye has declared a city-wide parking ban from 6PM Monday, January 26 until 11PM Wednesday, January 28.  The parking ban could be extended or lifted due to changing conditions.

In an effort to keep roadways clear for emergency vehicles and snow plowing operations, all city residents should make every effort to park their vehicles in areas off city streets.  Not adhering to this ban could result in vehicles being towed at the owner’s expense.

“We are asking residents to be patient and to avoid travel during this long duration storm,” said Mayor Tom Hoye. “Our City crews and contractors will be out in full force as soon as the storm starts and remain on the job until it is done.”

Municipal parking lots are located behind City Hall on Summer Street and lots on Cedar Street, Trescott Street, Weir Street (rear of TMLP offices), West Water Street (behind Weir House of Pizza), and Whittenton Street (at Goldstein’s 5 & 10) will be available to anyone who needs a parking space.

City residents are encouraged to avoid calling the Police and Fire Departments for non-emergencies.   For storm related information please call the Taunton Emergency Management Agency’s (TEMA) public information line at 508-880-1514.  Storm information can also be found on the City of Taunton’s website and Facebook page, on radio stations WVBF1530 AM and WSAR 1480 AM, Comcast Cable Stations 9 and 17, Verizon Channel 27, and on TEMA’s Facebook and Twitter pages.  For messages sent directly to your smart phone, text “followtauntonema” to 40404.
