The following presentation was made at the the DPW-hosted public informational meeting that was held at City Hall on Monday 1/9 regarding the proposed Broadway (Rt. 138) Roadway Improvements project (see link below).
The project involves improvements to Route 138 from Leonard Street to Jackson Street for an approximate distance of 1 ½ miles, in addition to limited work on intersecting local roadways. The northerly limit at Jackson Street coincides with a recent sidewalk and resurfacing project completed by MassDOT. Specifically, the proposed improvements include pavement resurfacing and full depth pavement reconstruction, sidewalk and curb ramp reconstruction to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), roadway lighting, traffic signal improvements, bicycle accommodation, warning and regulatory signing and pavement markings.
The existing traffic signals at Washington Street (southerly and northerly intersections), Purchase Street and East Britannia Street will be reconstructed. Minor roadway widening may be required to provide a sufficient cross section for travel lanes and bicycle accommodating shoulders. For the remainder of the project, the existing curb will remain in it its approximate current location with the exception of removal and resetting due to construction of the adjacent sidewalk.
Stormwater improvements will be limited to new structures at locations where curb realignment is proposed and adjustment of existing structures due to minor curb relocation or vertical pavement grade adjustments.
