To ensure public safety, the Taunton Board of Health permits and inspects all public and semi-public pools/spas in the City of Taunton according to the minimum sanitation standards for swimming pools set forth in Chapter V of the State Sanitary Code, 105CMR 435.000.
A Permit Application must be filled out prior to the opening of an outdoor/indoor pool/spa or before the expiration of the permit for an indoor pool/spa.
A check or money order with the correct fee payable to the City of Taunton must be provided with the application along with:
The water quality analysis must include, but is not limited to; coliform, heterotrophic plate count, free chlorine, alkalinity, PH, and pseudomonas.
Once the application is received, the Board of Health will contact you to set up an appointment to inspect the pool and/or spa.
When all of the proper documentation is submitted and the pool/spa has passed an inspection from the Board of Health, a permit will be issued. A pool/spa permit is only good for one year and expires on December 31st.
To help you better prepare for a Board of Health Inspection we have developed an inspection checklist (PDF). Make sure you have completed everything on the list before requesting an inspection.
