[ARCHIVED] Cold Weather Alert

Cold Weather Alert

Extreme cold weather conditions continue in our area this morning and through this afternoon.

As of this morning, TMLP reported that all power has been restored and crews removed trees and live wires. Please call 508-824-3111 to report any outages

Residents are urged to use caution and limit time outdoors – especially seniors, children & pets.

For assistance with non-emergency, non-medical matters (i.e. senior at home without heat), Taunton residents may call the Cold Weather Information Line at 774-406-5277.

Please call 911 for all emergencies.

Issues related to frozen pipes should be directed to a plumber. Some tips from DPW to keep water pipes from freezing.

  • Keep your heat at a normal level all day and you can  leave your faucets open with a slight drip to prevent your pipes from freezing.
  • Leave your kitchen and sink cabinet doors open if the pipes behind the doors can freeze. That allows the heat from your home to circulate in those areas and reach the pipes.
  • Pipes in your unheated spaces like garages and basements should be insulated.
  • Check for open windows, air vents and window drafts near water pipes.
  • Seal any leaks in the basement foundation where cold air may enter.
  • And make sure you know where the main water shut off valve is in your home. If a pipe bursts, shutting the valve will minimize damage.
  • You should also protect your water meter from icy drafts and freezing temperatures.

Stay safe out there!
