Why does the City no longer accept shredded paper in recycling set outs?

In prior years the City of Taunton has accepted shredded paper as a collected recyclable material, but going forward shredded paper is no longer an acceptable material at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). Materials like shredded paper, plastic bags, garden hoses, etc. tangle and clog the MRF's sorting machinery hindering recycling operations. Primarily because of its size, shredded paper is often too small to be properly captured and baled with other fiber materials at the facility. Some suggest shredded paper as an additive to composting.
