Residents are responsible for any water leaks from the curb stop into the home. Having a plumber assess older utilities can help prevent unaccounted for water loss. A leaky toilet is one of the largest causes of wasted water, often resulting in high consumption and water bills for residents. Listening for a hissing sound or the sound of running water flowing through when not in use should highlight obvious issues or leaks. Residents can also add 10 to 12 drops of food coloring into the toilet tank, wait 15 to 30 minutes and if coloring is noticed in the toilet bowl it is recommended that the flapper valve be replaced.

The Water Division is responsible for the water service from the water main to the curb stop. The water service after the curb stop to the house is the responsibility of the home owner. There is no charge to the owner if the leak is between the water main and the curb stop. If there is a leak after the curb stop to the house the homeowner must hire a town approved contractor for the repair.
