MA Weekly COVID-19 Vaccination Report (Updated Every Thursday After 5pm): 11/18/21 click here

Children who live or study in Massachusetts and are ages 5-11 are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine as of November 2, 2021. Children under the age of 5 are not eligible to be vaccinated yet.

Please contact your child's pediatrician for information and advice regarding the COVID-19 vaccine for your child.

Additional information can be accessed here: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-vaccinations-for-children-ages-5-11

Booster eligibility

Everyone age 18 or older who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least 6 months ago or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least 2 months ago can get any booster.

There are hundreds of locations across the Commonwealth for residents to receive a COVID-19 booster shot. In order to find a convenient location for getting a COVID-19 Booster:

Visit the VaxFinder tool at vaxfinder.mass.gov for a list of locations to receive a booster.

                                                              3rd dose

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised are especially vulnerable to COVID-19 because they are more at risk of serious, prolonged illness.

People with moderately to severely compromised immune systems may not build the same level of immunity to 2-dose vaccine series compared to people who are not immunocompromised.

People who have compromised immune systems may benefit from an additional dose to make sure they have enough protection against COVID-19.

CDC recommends people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised should receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine after the initial 2 doses.

This additional dose intended to improve immunocompromised people’s response to their initial vaccine series is not the same as a booster dose, given to people when the immune response to a primary vaccine series is likely to have waned over time.

CDC does not recommend additional doses or booster shots for any other population at this time.

CDC recommends that people with moderately to severely compromised immune systems receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least 28 days after a second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

People should talk to their healthcare provider about whether getting an additional dose is appropriate for them.

For more information, please refer to: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations/immuno.html.

                                                  ARPA

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 is a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus bill. ARPA was created to help states, municipalities, counties, tribes and territories help mitigate the negative impact of COVID-19.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced that Taunton will receive $20,952,932 in federal funding as part of the American Rescue Plan Act. Taunton Public Schools (TPS) will receive $26,602,613.00 exclusively for TPS expenses.

The U.S. Treasury also released rules and guidelines for the program that sets forth eligible uses for funding, which includes responding to acute pandemic-response needs, filling revenue shortfalls, and supporting the communities and populations hardest-hit by COVID-19

There are five core areas for disbursement of funds:

Support Public Health Response:

Respond to the public health emergency with respect to COVID-19 or its negative economic impacts.

Address Negative Economic Impacts:

Respond to economic harm to workers, families, small businesses, impacted industries, and the public sector.

Replace Lost Revenue:

Provide government services to the extent of the reduction in revenue due to COVID-19.

Water, Sewer, and Broadband Infrastructure:

Make necessary investments to improve access to clean drinking water, invest in wastewater and stormwater infrastructure, and expand broadband access.

Premium Pay:

Funds may be used for additional support for those who have faced the greatest health risks because of their service in critical infrastructure sectors.

Your opinion is needed. What do you think is highest priority for the City of Taunton?

Take a brief online survey on how you think the City should prioritize ARPA funding: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Z8M5GGQ

In addition, the City intends to provide opportunities for community engagement. The first Community Engagement meeting for Taunton residents will be Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 6:00pm at City Hall, 15 Summer Street, in the Council Chambers.

Public feedback can be submitted at any time to COVID19INFO@taunton-ma.gov.

Mask Advisory Updated: July 30, 2021

Effective July 30: The Department of Public Health has issued a new mask advisory in light of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s updated guidance.

Fully vaccinated individuals are advised to wear a mask or face covering when indoors (and not in your own home) if you have a weakened immune system, or if you are at increased risk for severe disease because of your age or an underlying medical condition, or if someone in your household has a weakened immune system, is at increased risk for severe disease, or is an unvaccinated adult.

All unvaccinated residents are advised to continue to wear masks in indoor settings and when they can’t socially distance.

Masks are still mandatory for all individuals on public and private transportation systems (including rideshares, livery, taxi, ferries, MBTA, Commuter Rail and transportation stations), in healthcare facilities and in other settings hosting vulnerable populations, such as congregate care settings.
