PRINCIPAL CLERK (PROVISIONAL) 
AUDITOR’S OFFICE

There is one opening for a Principal Clerk (Provisional) in the City Auditor’s Office.  This position is covered under the Public Employees Union Local 1144B and is a Civil Service position.

Duties
To include but are not limited to:

  • Verify vouchers presented by City departments for payment.
  • Maintain necessary worksheets/files on department purchases.
  • Interact with departments on questions on payment of vouchers.
  • Data entry of vouchers into City's financial management programs for preparation of the weekly bill.
  • Review of School department and TMLP vouchers.
  • Any additional duties as assigned by department head in respect to payment of the weekly A/P.
  • Employee has access to databases which hold confidential information.  Employees are required to maintain confidentiality regarding all transactions.
  • Performs similar or related work as required or as situation dictates.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; one to two years of related experience, including experience working with the public; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong Accounts Payable skills.
  • Must possess strong decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess excellent telephone skills.
  • Must have knowledge of software programs Microsoft Word and Excel.

SUPERINTENDENT OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

The City of Taunton Department of Public Works is seeking to fill the position of Superintendent of Buildings who directs the repairs and maintenance of all City owned buildings.  Manages and directs the construction and renovations of these buildings.  Technically known as the Supervisor of Public Buildings Division of the Department of Public Works.  This position works under the direction of the Mayor, Department of Public Works Commissioner and Municipal Council and reports to the Department of Public Works Commissioner.  This is a City of Taunton Management Association position.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The primary duties and responsibilities listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that must be performed in order for the incumbent to meet the essential functions of this position.  Any and all other duties are as negotiated. 
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Attends meetings as required by the Mayor and Municipal Council.
  • Appoints and supervises all office and clerical staff in accordance with MGL Chapter 31.
  • Supervises a skilled technical staff of more than two; ensures that they are properly trained and licensed as required.
  • Prepares and implements the annual department budgets and reports.
  • Acts as the Contracting Officer.
  • Works with Owners Project Manager on high cost building projects.
  • Develops and implements projects that are governed under various state contract and procurement laws, including Chapters 149, 30 Sec. 39M, 25A, 30B and 7C Sec. 44-57.
  • Responsible for submitting all documentation for reimbursements of projects under the School Building Assistance (SBA) Program.
  • Provides proper facility maintenance and oversees all construction and renovation of City buildings.
  • Monitors SOMWBA/MBE/WBE projects as associated with public buildings projects.
  • Ensures compliance with all relative local, state and federal regulations.
  • Any additional duties as assigned by the DPW Commissioner.

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Bachelor’s Degree in construction or facilities management, engineering or architecture or related field preferred; or a combination of related training courses, certifications or licenses in building construction or facilities management, extensive OPM experience, building construction supervision, licensed building inspector or a combination and related experience.  MCPPO certification required or ability to obtain such with 12 months.  Relevant work experience or completion of an asbestos awareness class for building managers or equivalent or ability to complete such within 12 months.

Salary:  Step 1 New Hire $1,645.27 weekly

ELDER OUTREACH CASE WORKER/BILINGUAL
DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Professional experience in the field of human services required; have experience working in a social service setting, preferably with the elder population.  The Worker must be bilingual in the languages of English and Portuguese.  They must be fluent in oral skills and knowledgeable in the written languages of English and Portuguese.  They must understand the culture they will serve. The Case Worker must display good listening skills along with the ability to identify, empathize with, advocate and appropriately refer client needs to Elder Outreach Director.  Knowledge of available social services is preferred.  Knowledge and understanding of Client Confidentiality required.  Must be able to work independently and have own transportation.  Must pass CORI and physical.  Position is grant-funded.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist Portuguese-speaking elders with cultural and linguistic barriers to establish a network of health and social services; refer to appropriate programs and services.
  2. Provide the necessary bilingual communication skills needed to access services (oral and/or written).
  3. Provide case management, friendly visiting and support services to elders.
  4. Scheduling of weekly/biweekly/monthly home visits with elder clients. 
  5. Completion of Elder Outreach Intake Form and Progress Notes following each home visit or telephone contact.
  6. Completion of program applications and renewals as needed.
  7. Maintain client files and confidential records. 
  8. Completion and maintenance of monthly statistics form.
  9. Attendance of weekly supervision meetings and/or more frequent supervision conferences if needed.  Attendance of informational meetings or in-services.
  10. Becoming knowledgeable of services offered in the community and maintaining up-to-date program eligibility requirements.
  11. Becoming knowledgeable of Client confidentiality and maintaining Client Confidentiality.

SALARY:  The Case Worker will receive $16.00 per hour for eighteen (18) hours per week.

  2. Scheduling of weekly/biweekly/monthly home or office visits with elder clients.
  3. Completion of Outreach Intake Form and Progress Notes following each home or office visit or telephone contact.
  4. Maintaining client files and confidential records.  Completion and maintenance of monthly statistics form.
  5. Consultation with Elder Outreach Director and/or Case Manager with regards to referrals to appropriate programs and services; home visitation during referral process to maintain continuity.
  6. Completion of program applications, i.e. fuel assistance, brown bag program.
  7. Attendance of weekly supervision meetings and/or more frequent supervision conferences if needed.  Attendance of informational meetings or in-service.
  8. Acquainting oneself with Department of Human Services/Taunton Council on Aging office procedures.
  9. Becoming knowledgeable of services offered in the community and maintaining up-to-date program eligibility requirements.
  10. Distribution of Welcome Packets for new clients.
  11. Becoming knowledgeable of Client Confidentiality and maintaining Client Confidentiality.
  12. Telephoning of elders on the City of Taunton Census List to inform of services available.
  13. Provide telephone and office coverage when needed.
