WORKING FOREMAN 
D.P.W. – BUILDING DIVISION

The Department of Public Works Building Division has an opening for a Working Foreman.  This position works under the general supervision of the Superintendent of Buildings.  This is a Civil Service position under the Public Employees Council of the Laborers International Union of North America, Local Union 1144A.  

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary duties and responsibilities listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that must be performed in order for the incumbent to meet the essential functions of this position.  Any and all other duties are as negotiated.  

Responsible for the performance of various construction or repair work with contractors, suppliers and City employees and evaluation of construction documents associated with the maintenance of City-owned buildings to ensure that projects are completed in accordance with specifications and within established budgets. Responsible for coordination, oversight, inspection, preparation of maintenance logs, resolution of warranty issues, and establishing facility maintenance schedules.  Foreman is required to respond and resolve all work orders assigned to him via the City’s web based facility maintenance software, known as Facility Dude.  Foreman ensures that all activities conducted by subordinate staff are properly recorded onto Facility Dude.  Responsible for the preparation and accommodation of Municipal, State and Federal government election equipment and ballot box transportation.  Attends training programs regarding the proper handling and application of department equipment, tools, maintenance of required licenses and the handling of asbestos and lead safety training.  Responsible for the procurement of price quotations in support of Building Department operations in accordance with the State Procurement Law.

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Master Craftsman level of trade knowledge; seven to ten years’ prior work experience of which one to three years in commercial framing and finish carpentry is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Class D Motor Vehicle Driver’s License, Construction Supervisor’s License is required within 12 months of appointment.  Must submit to a CORI background review.  

SALARY RANGE:   Step 1:  $25.93 per hour plus benefits.  Full job description available at Human Resources.

PLUMBER 
D.P.W. – BUILDING DIVISION

 The Department of Public Works Building Division has an opening for a Plumber.  This position works under the general supervision of the Building Superintendent or Designee and Head Plumber.  This is a Civil Service position under the Public Employees Council of the Laborers International Union of North America, Local Union 1144A.  

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary duties and responsibilities listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that must be performed in order for the incumbent to meet the essential functions of this position.  Any and all other duties are as negotiated.  

The duties will include the maintenance, installation and repair of water pipes and make necessary connections; maintain heating and plumbing systems.  Repairs and replaces defective and leaky water and drain pipes, repairs and replaces valves, faucets, sinks, tanks, bubblers, tanks, and fixtures, replaces gaskets, washers, open clogged drains, attaches pipe assemblies to walls, assembles, bolts, or solders valves, couplings, pipe sections and other parts, connects plumbing fixtures to outlets and seals connections.  Performs plumbing and gas piping work as required.  Performs other manual duties related to plumbing and heating work within public buildings as required.  Applicant must have ability to climb ladders, stairs and lift 50 pounds.  

MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Must have a high school diploma/GED, a valid Massachusetts Drivers License and have a Massachusetts Plumber’s Journeyman’s license.  Requires a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the plumbing field.  Ability to read blueprints, schematics work plans etc. Proficiency with internet site navigation and email communication highly desired.  Must submit to a CORI background review.  

SALARY RANGE:   Step 1:  $29.76 per hour plus benefits.
