Maintenance/Tree & Brush Programs
Our maintenance employees are responsible for the up-keep of all properties under the jurisdiction of the department, the municipal pool, municipal tree trimming and removals, storm and condemned tree removals and tree plantings. The Maintenance staff are also responsible for the coordination and support of many special events that are held in the city to include Kiddies Day, Annual Lighting of The Christmas Display on Taunton Green and Christmas Parade.
Tree Trimming/Removal Procedures
The Tree Warden is responsible for the care of all trees in city parks, playgrounds and conservation areas. Under the jurisdiction of the Tree Warden, the city will remove or prune any trees which are located on city property or city roadways that are deemed hazardous. Any resident may request a site visit to determine whether a tree is on private or city property.
The department provides a brush removal program from July through October. The department does not provide brush control for all roadways but does attempt to remove brush from dangerous curbs and intersections. Any brush area located near a school will be given priority. The city does not use pesticides in their brush or insect control programs (poison ivy, bee hives etc).
